Questions To Keep Your Family Safe
THINGS TO ASK ASBESTOS CONTRACTORS
There are many contractors out there using less than safe methods for removing asbestos; which can put your family in danger.
- WILL YOU BE FILING A NOTICE OF PROJECT WITH WORKSAFEBC?
This is a requirement put in place by WorkSafeBC which is the provinces governing body that ensures that all work is completed safely. Many times unscrupulous contractors will not file a notice of project. This will alert the board that there is a job going on and invites their inspectors to visit the site (which they don’t like). Finally, let the contrator know you will want to see a copy.
- WILL YOU BE USING D.O.P CERTIFIED EQUIPMENT?
D.O.P. stands for Di-Octyl Phthalate and is a method of testing H.E.P.A. filtered equipment to ensure they are working correctly. This is a very important step and one of the required regulations. Without this procedure in place, there is a good chance that the equipment used for the removal process could be causing more damage; spreading asbestos throughout your house. This is why using a standard vacuum is a bad idea.
- WHO WILL BE IN MY HOUSE?
This is an often overlooked point. It is an important step, obviously, to meet with the owner or project manager, but what about the guys working in your home? There are some questions that should be asked about all of the workers on site.
- WHAT KIND OF TRAINING DO YOU AND YOUR WORKERS HAVE?
All of Hazpro Environmental’s staff go through our in house training program. This type of training is taught by Mike Frais who is our Environmental Scientist on staff. After that, our new employees go through a job shadowing process working hand in hand with an experienced staff member.
